I am very excited to have joined Manor Green School, an excellent school with outstanding facilities for the students to use. I initially worked as a special needs' teaching assistant, mainly supporting maths' lessons, before I qualified as a secondary maths' teacher. I have worked in both mixed and all boys' comprehensive state schools, teaching up to AS level maths. Before this current role, I worked in North Carolina, USA at a special needs' school for 1.5 years, predominantly working with students on the autism spectrum and some with minor learning difficulties, I was able to develop a multi-use activity for the school to develop money, communication, organisation and other independent living skills and hope to do something similar at Manor Green School.

My experience across both mainstream and specialist schools has enabled me to be very adaptive and creative in tasks and I am always looking for ways to incorporate cross-curriculum activities that are beneficial to developing independent skills.

A few of my aims are to:

  • Maintain high quality intervention teaching, working with and supporting class teachers, as well as small group and 1:1 sessions where necessary.
  • Maintain the baseline assessments implemented by my predessor and monitor students' progress.
  • Support students aiming for examination qualifications to develop good exam techniques.
  • Keep up to date with new teaching and learning practices or ideas and implement those which are best for our students, for example: Touch Point Math used in USA.
  • Ensure regular communication between me, class teachers and cluster leaders so that we focus on the students' needs first and allow feedback to improve standards.
